There are many reasons that a family may want to have a memorial ceremony. Perhaps they wanted the funeral to be an intimate family only ceremony or maybe there were many mourners who were, for whatever reason, unable to attend.

 

A memorial ceremony can take place anywhere and anytime and often has a more relaxed, informal atmosphere and a more joyful celebratory feel.

Unlike a funeral in a crematorium there is no time limit to a memorial ceremony and no limit to what happens during the memorial.

Some parents may feel that a funeral is not suitable for children, but they might consider that a memorial focusing as it does on  celebration, would be fine for children to attend.
